The Bonn SDG Fellowship offered by the University of Bonn, Germany is for scholars preferably from Africa, Latin America, and South / East Asia for research on sustainable development goals-related topics for 3 -12 months starting from January 2025. The main goal of this fellowship is to carry out the research project on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as set forth by the United Nations in its Agenda 2023 regarding Sustainable Development. These research projects will be carried out by the scientists together with a professor, and a faculty member at the University of Bonn for one or two semesters (3 to 12 months).

  5. Scholarship Benefits: The following are the benefits under the Bonn SDG Fellowship program offered by the University of Bonn, Germany: –
    • A traveling allowance depending on the country of origin
    • A stipend of 3,000 Euros per month and additional funds for family members up to 300 Euro for spouse and 250 Euro for child
    • A research expense allowance of up to 500 Euro per month
    • Insurance is not a part of the scholarship anymore.
    • There is no inclusion of housing in the Bonn SDG Fellowship
  6. Selection Criteria: The selection for the Bonn SDG Fellowship project proposals are evaluated in two categories: –
    • 50 % Academic Quality and Mutual Benefit which is the quality of the research project to be worked on / carried out during the stay at the University of Bonn, Germany.
    • 50 % Strategic Relevance and Potential for Future Cooperation, which is the intensity of the existing cooperation, plans for long-term research relationships between the scholar and the University of Bonn, Germany.
    • If two proposals score the same, the Academic Quality and mutual Benefit will stay a priority.
  7. Selection Process
    • First of all, independent experts pre-assessment anonymously from the University of Bonn
    • A committee of representatives from all faculties at the University of Bonn will discuss the shortlists and select the fellowships.
    • There is flexibility of funding up to five keeping in view the requested amount.
  8. Who can submit the application? The professor must submit the application who is a full-time professor at the University of Bonn together with the scholar. The applicant scholar cannot submit his / her application directly to the University of Bonn with the professor.
  9. Application Requirements: The full application package should include the following documents: –
    • Online application form
    • The project description in PDF format of a maximum of 8 pages should consist of the following: –
      • Abstract of the proposed project to be carried out at the University of Bonn – Up to 250 words
      • Prepare an outline of the research project you will conduct during your scholarship at the University of Bonn, Germany. Write the proposal for a multidisciplinary audience.
      • Reasons for the scholar’s invitation and a brief description of his / her contribution to research and teaching of the project at the University of Bonn. The reason should also include the activities through which the scholar will enrich university life during their stay at the University of Bonn.
      • Collaboration between the professor at the University of Bonn and scholars so far
      • An overview of the integration of the fellow into the host university/institute like place of work, participation in teaching and research activities.
      • An outline of follow on value ie plan for the outcome of the stay and future plans for collaboration
      • Scholar’s CV (Curriculum Vitae) in PDF
      • A financing plan  
  10. Key dates
    • The application submission deadline is April 30, 2024.
    • Funding or the research projects starts at the earliest in January 2025, and no later than July 2025.
  11. Scholarship period

The scholarship period for Bonn SDG Fellowships is 3 – 12 months.
